About this adventure

A volunteer-run big-cat sanctuary on Jacksonville's Northside that is open to the public only on scheduled tour days. Each visit starts with a short welcome video, followed by a 40–45 minute guided walk of about a mile on packed dirt, with facts about the species, stories about individual residents and how the habitats are built. On Night Feeding evenings the founder leads a 7:30 p.m. feeding from the back of the property to the front, when more than 600 pounds of raw meat goes out and the cats are at their most active; lions can be heard up to five miles away, so the roaring may frighten small children who dislike loud noises. Visits are entirely outdoors and run rain or shine (paused for lightning); bring sunscreen, bug spray and closed-toe shoes after rain. There is a snack stand and a baby-changing station in the accessible portable restroom.
