Christmas in the Courtyard is Merriam's annual holiday lighting night at the Merriam Community Center. Local elementary school choirs sing carols, and Mayor Bob Pape lights up Merriam Plaza. Children can meet Santa, make holiday crafts and enjoy sweet treats, with a few holiday surprises promised by the city. It is free, runs 6 to 8 p.m., and is billed as a family tradition for all ages. Dress for an evening outdoors in the courtyard.
