Junior Chefs ages 9 to 14 spend a Thanksgiving-week morning learning Kansas City-style barbecue at The Culinary Center of Kansas City in Overland Park. One of the center's experienced instructors covers grilling fundamentals, then each camper blends a custom dry rub and mixes a homemade BBQ sauce, both of which go home with them. On the grill: chicken wings, vegetable skewers, fruit kabobs and a grilled dessert. The three-hour class is beginner-friendly, so no prior cooking is needed, and all ingredients and equipment are supplied. Pair it with the Spaghetti & Meatballs camp the day before for two days of break-week cooking.
