About this adventure
A hands-on holiday workshop at the Museum of Kansas City, the Long-Bell mansion on Gladstone Boulevard in the Historic Northeast. Participants learn about Mexican tin art (hojalata), a folk-art tradition used for generations to make ornaments, mirrors, lanterns and festive decorations, and then make their own embossed tin ornament using traditional design elements. The workshop ties in with the museum's second-floor exhibition Connecting Cultures Across Kansas City: The Hand-in-Hand Folk Art Collection, so families can look at the folk-art pieces before or after the session. It runs for an hour and a half on a Thursday evening in December, and each participant leaves with a handmade ornament for the tree. Tickets are $12 per person through the museum's Eventbrite link, and space is limited.
