About this adventure

Downtown Long Beach's 12th annual Christmas Tree Lighting fills Terrace Theater Plaza on a Monday evening in December. The 67-foot tree is switched on together with more than half a million lights, followed by a fireworks finale while artificial snow falls over the plaza. Before the lighting, families can take free holiday train rides, have photos taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and watch live music and holiday performances that include dancers from Long Beach Ballet's The Nutcracker. Giant ornaments and a walk-in snow globe serve as photo spots, and food trucks sell seasonal treats. Entry is free but needs a ticket: tickets are released online in weekly batches starting November 9, with a limit of four per person. Guests are invited to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Long Beach Fire Department's Spark of Love Toy Drive. The plaza stays decorated through New Year's.
