Fort Lauderdale's free New Year's Eve street festival fills downtown around SW 2nd Street and SW 5th Avenue from 4:30 pm. The early hours are aimed at children: bounce houses, inflatables, face painting, games, contests, dancing with a DJ and a special kids' countdown, so families can celebrate and head home long before midnight. Later in the night the program turns to live music for adults and ends with a lighted anchor drop at midnight. Expect road closures around the Broward Center from Dec 30; plan parking or transit ahead.
