About this adventure
Each holiday season the Cedarburg Art Museum turns its 1898 Victorian mansion, the Wittenberg-Jochem house on Washington Avenue, into a walk-through version of Clement C. Moore's poem 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. Each period room stages another part of the story with imaginative holiday displays and historic details, alongside works by well-known Wisconsin artists, so families can read or recite the poem as they move from room to room. The grounds are decorated as well, with twinkling lights and family photo spots in the garden, and there is a holiday gift shop. On Festive Friday evenings from November 20 to December 18 the museum stays open until 8:30 p.m., and reindeer visit outside from 5 to 8 p.m.; children 5 and under get in free on those Friday evenings. Entry is by timed ticket for a set date and arrival time, and some slots sell out, so book ahead. A visit takes well under an hour, which suits preschoolers and early readers who know the poem. The museum is closed Mondays, Tuesdays, Thanksgiving, December 24–25 and December 31–January 1.
