About this adventure

On New Year's Eve afternoon, Three Rivers Park District's Outdoor Recreation School says goodbye to 2026 at French Regional Park in Plymouth with a guided snowshoe outing and a campfire treat. Instructors begin with the basics of strapping on snowshoes and walking in them, so first-timers are welcome, then lead the group along the park's snowy trails near Medicine Lake. The outing ends around a fire where everyone roasts marshmallows and builds a s'more. Snowshoes and the rest of the equipment are provided, and if there is no snow the group goes on a hike instead. It is a daytime way for families with school-age children to mark the last day of the year, running from 1 to 3 p.m., well before any late-night celebrations. Children from age 5 can take part; those 11 and under must come with a registered adult. Each participant pays $12, and the park district emails program details beforehand. Everything happens outdoors, so dress in warm layers and boots.
