About this adventure
The Wilderness Station is Murfreesboro's nature center inside Barfield Crescent Park and the base of Outdoor Murfreesboro, the city's environmental-education team. Education animals include owls, a hawk and snakes, and staff run nature programs at the center and on nearby trails. From the station, about 5 miles of trails cross a 275-acre backcountry; the paved section runs through hardwood forest above limestone outcrops to the River Overlook, and the first 0.7 mile is a 12-station Tree Trail with a guide available inside. The gift shop sells nature toys, books and snacks. Saturday birthday-party programs can be booked by phone.
