For Veterans Day, the Long Island Children's Museum's monthly AdvoKids series tells the story of Navy veteran Julia Parsons and her code-breaking work during World War II. After hearing her story, children make a Code Maker Breaker to take home. AdvoKids teaches children what it means to advocate for themselves and others, and gives adults ideas for supporting their child's self-advocacy, confidence, resilience and empathy. There are two 30-minute sessions on Wednesday, November 11, at 11:00 am and noon, and the museum lists the program for ages 0+. It is free with museum admission, but tickets are required: reserve at the box office on the day (booking closes five minutes before each class) or in advance.
