New York City Ballet stages a sensory-friendly performance of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker on Sunday, January 3, 2027, at 1 pm at the David H. Koch Theater. It is designed as a relaxed, inclusive show for audiences with autism, sensory and communication disorders, or learning disabilities, and their families. Changes include a relaxed entry and exit policy, adjusted lighting and sound levels, designated break areas throughout the theater, extra staff to help with audience needs, and pre-visit resources including a social narrative. The production tells the story of Marie and the Nutcracker Prince defeating the Mouse King and celebrating in the Land of Sweets, with 90 dancers, 62 musicians and more than 125 children from the School of American Ballet.
