About this adventure
Historic Stockyards City Main Street holds its Cowboy Christmas Parade on a Saturday morning in early December, a western-themed holiday parade through Oklahoma City's working cattle-market district. Entries come from the local community: Main Street organizes it to celebrate and preserve the neighborhood's western heritage, and businesses, riders and groups apply to take part by November 20. A 10 a.m. start makes it easy for families with young children who cannot stay out for evening light parades. Before or after the parade, the Metropolitan Library System's Stockyards City Library at 2101 Exchange Avenue, on the parade street, serves free hot chocolate and coffee from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Families can warm up inside, get a library card or browse books there. The district's western-wear shops and restaurants are open along Exchange and Agnew avenues.
