About this adventure

The Edmond History Museum turns Washington Irving's tale into a free storybook walkthrough, with actors and musicians performing scenes at four historic properties within walking distance of Stephenson Park. Families start at the museum to 'meet' Irving, who travelled near present-day Edmond as a surveyor in 1832, and collect a storybook guide. The museum also has Sleepy Hollow crafts and eye-spy activities. Next comes Ichabod Crane's class at the American Legion Hut, where students sing 1800s songs and kids try writing with quill and ink. The party at the Victorian Rodkey House has apple cider, live music, Colonial dancing and Katrina and Brom Bones retelling the Headless Horseman story. Children can walk, or ride a stick horse, across the bridge. The museum stresses that the daytime event is not scary: think Disney version, not haunted house. Allow one to two hours; the last show starts at 3:30 p.m.
