Juniper Library on Union Hills Drive in north Phoenix sets up a children's cycling course in its parking lot for a Saturday Bike Safety Rodeo, running 10:00 a.m. to noon the weekend before Thanksgiving. The aim is practical: kids learn balance, braking and turning on a course of stations, and hear the road rules that matter once they leave the driveway. Phoenix Children's Hospital supplies free helmets for children while they last, which is a good reason to arrive early. Young riders are encouraged to bring a bike and helmet from home, but the library also has bikes and scooters to lend during the event for anyone without one. There is no cost to take part. Families needing an accommodation are asked to call 602-262-4636 (TTY 711) at least 14 business days before the date.
