Usery Mountain rangers who are certified Basic Archery Instructors teach the fundamentals of International Style Target Archery at the park's archery range in east Mesa. The class covers safety protocol, shooting form and aiming in about an hour of instruction and live-range practice, then a short break and roughly an hour of target games and skills tests in a friendly competition between students. All equipment is provided. It is open to adults and kids aged 10 and up, since drawing the bow takes arm and shoulder strength, which makes it a good parent-and-tween outing. Wear closed-toe shoes and sun-protective clothing and bring snacks and water. Space is limited to 10 participants: register by emailing the ranger with your phone number and participant names. Arrive 15 minutes early because late arrivals may not be able to join and park entry lines can be slow.
