About this adventure

Allegheny Township in northern Westmoreland County opens its holiday season with a Light Up Night at the township Community Building. The evening is built around young families: kids can take train rides, work on crafts and play games, and there are cookies and hot chocolate, carolers and raffle baskets. Santa makes a visit during the evening, so it is a chance for little ones to see him close to home before the busier mall and downtown Santa events. The township's earlier Light the Season gatherings also included a countdown to light the Christmas tree and a star on the flagpole, with Santa escorted in by the local fire departments, though the 2026 notice lists only the activities above. Proceeds from the night benefit Toys for Cavs, a local toy drive. The event is held indoors and outside the Community Building on Community Building Road; dress for a late-November evening and plan to arrive early if your children want a train ride before it gets busy.
