The Portland Ballet's Thanksgiving-weekend performances pair two short ballets that work well as a first ballet outing for children. In The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, dancers bring Benjamin Britten's music to life in a playful, whimsical piece that highlights each section of the orchestra before they all come together. Paquita brings the color and energy of 19th-century Spain to the stage with a series of classical solos and group dances building to a lively finale. The shows take place at the BodyVox Dance Center in NW Portland, an intimate venue compared with the big downtown halls. Youth and student tickets are half price, and Arts for All discounts are available through the box office.
