About this adventure
Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center, inside Ninigret Park in Charlestown, opens to the public every Friday night. On clear nights astronomers point the observatory telescopes at the night sky and lead guided viewing; on cloudy or rainy Fridays the center still opens from 7 to 9pm with presentations in the Sky Theatre, Science Center exhibits and observatory tours, but no telescope viewing. Events are cancelled if the weather is dangerous. From May through December, Friday Stargazing Nights require tickets, which go on sale the day before or day of the event once the forecast is known (check the event page's Cost field, which also lists any suggested donation). Inside the observatory, free access passes put visitors into timed groups of up to 25. Programs are designed for ages 5 and older, and anyone under 18 must come with a parent, guardian or supervised group in this dark, rural park. Only low-output red lights are allowed on site.
