Life-size animatronic dinosaurs are spread around the Sacramento Zoo in William Land Park for Dinosaur Safari, on view now through December and included with regular zoo admission. Kids can hunt for more than a dozen moving, roaring models using the zoo's dinosaur guide: a Tyrannosaurus rex and baby on the Reptile House lawn and in the Entry Plaza, a Brachiosaurus and baby, Triceratops and baby, Stegosaurus, Utahraptor, Parasaurolophus near the carousel, and the giant flying reptile Quetzalcoatlus near Kampala Café. Extra stops include a climbable dinosaur on the Reptile House lawn, a fossil dig pit next to the carousel, a Camarasaurus wall plaque by the playground and a T. rex photo spot. The exhibit page doubles as a science guide on what makes a dinosaur, how scientists work out colour and sound, and the zoo's living dinosaur relatives (birds, crocodilians, turtles). The zoo warns that the dinosaurs move and make noise; sensory bags with noise-cancelling headphones are available at Member & Visitor Services, and during Sensory Sensitive Dino Hours the dinosaurs stop moving and making sounds at 3 p.m. on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month. Zoo closures in the period: Nov. 26 and Dec. 24–25; early close at noon on Nov. 7.
