Placer Land Trust opens its Clover Valley Preserve in Rocklin for a docent-led bird stroll on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2026, starting at 8:30 a.m. and wrapping up around 11:30 a.m. Clover Valley is normally closed to the public and can only be visited as a registered guest on events like this one, so it is a rare chance to see one of the last intact oak woodlands in western Placer County, including a 20-acre beaver-made wetland along Clover Valley Creek. Docents help participants look and listen for songbirds and practice basic identification; no birding experience is needed. The walk is easy, about 2.5 miles with no significant elevation change, on dirt roads and single-track trail, sometimes off-trail to view beaver ponds and cross the creek on temporary footbridges, so hiking poles are recommended. There is no water and there are no restrooms. Bring binoculars. The land trust says younger children are not advised unless they can stay quiet, which makes this best for older kids who enjoy wildlife. Enrollment is limited to 12, registration closes at 5 p.m. the Wednesday before, dogs are not allowed, and directions are emailed after registering. It is free, with a suggested donation of $10 per person or $25 per family.
