Texas Parks and Wildlife – Government Canyon State Natural Area

A fairly easy, all-ages plant walk of about 1.5 miles round trip on the Discovery Trail at Government Canyon State Natural Area. Volunteer guides introduce up to 30 native Texas wildflowers, trees and shrubs (depending on the season), explain how local geology created the area's rich biodiversity, and talk about how those plants drew Native Americans and European settlers to the region and support wildlife habitat. No registration is needed; meet at the Rock Garden beside the Visitor Center. The trail has a crushed-granite surface and is somewhat wheelchair-friendly. Minors must be with a parent or guardian; no pets. Bring at least a liter of water per person, sunscreen and a hat. The walk is free, but Natural Area entrance fees apply.
