A guided afternoon hike to the historic Kallison Ranch complex at Government Canyon State Natural Area — an area not normally open to the public. Along the roughly 2.5-mile round trip over moderately rough terrain with some significant elevation change, guides talk about how Texas was settled in the late 1800s and about the influential Kallison family and their legacy, with scenic views on the way. It is open to ages 10 and above; anyone under 18 must be with a parent or guardian, and no pets. No registration, but the hike is limited to the first 30 people to check in — meet at the Rock Garden beside the Visitor Center by 1:45 pm. The hike is free; Natural Area entrance fees apply. Bring at least a liter of water per person, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat.
