San Diego County Parks' Hawktober season of free birds-of-prey workshops makes a stop at the Fallbrook Community Center on Saturday afternoon, October 24. County rangers bring live ambassador raptors such as hawks, owls and falcons, and children can see them up close while rangers explain how each bird hunts, what it eats, when it is active and what special traits (speed, camouflage, night vision) help it survive. Each bird has a name and a story, and the line-up differs from park to park, so families who have already been to another Hawktober workshop will meet different birds here. The session runs one hour, is free and open to all ages. It is the Fallbrook stop of the annual celebration, now in its eighth year, which runs at parks, campgrounds and preserves across the county through the end of October.
