A free one-hour Hawktober session at Lamar County Park in Spring Valley, part of County Parks' eighth annual celebration of local birds of prey. Rangers bring live ambassador raptors such as hawks, owls and falcons, let families see them up close and explain how each bird hunts, what it eats, when it is active and what special traits (speed, camouflage, night vision) it has. Each bird has a name and a story. The 9:30 a.m. Saturday slot follows a volunteer cleanup at the same park, and the program is open to all ages, so toddlers through teens can come along.
