Rangers lead an 8 a.m. bird walk through 90-acre El Monte County Park in Lakeside before the park's front gates open, identifying birds along the way and ending with a visit to the park's animal ambassadors, including hawks, owls and a kestrel. Meet at the El Monte Staging Lot just before the park entrance on the left (look for the big yellow gates); rangers gather the group there and walk in through the back of the park. The walk happens rain or shine but severe weather may cancel. RSVP to El Monte staff at (619) 443-1474. A calm, early outing for older children and teens who like birds.
