About this adventure
Buena Vista Audubon leads a monthly first-Saturday bird walk at Whelan Lake Bird Sanctuary in Oceanside. Walkers explore several areas around the lake on an easy-to-moderate route of a little over 2 miles with some steep stretches; a restroom is available. The gate is open only from 7:45 to 8:00 am, so arriving on time is essential: latecomers cannot get in. The walk suits school-age children who can manage two miles and an early start.
