About this adventure

Every evening of the holiday season, the grove of tall Norfolk Island pines on the Hotel del Coronado's Founders Lawn becomes a light show choreographed to a holiday soundtrack and finished with a flurry of artificial snow. The grove includes the Norfolk pine that became famous in 1904 as the world's first electrically lit outdoor Christmas tree, which makes the show a small piece of local history as well as a free family outing. Each show lasts about 10 minutes and repeats every 30 minutes from 5 to 9 PM, so families can time a visit around dinner or a session at the hotel's beachfront ice rink and still catch a show before bedtime. It is open to the public with no reservations. A bar beside the lawn, built around a 12-foot replica of the hotel's red turret, has lounge seating for watching.
