About this adventure

Entomology graduate student, researcher and science communicator Sophia Di Piazza leads a slow, close-up walk through the San Francisco Botanical Garden to find the insects that live among its plants. Groups look for pollinators, beetles, true bugs and other tiny creatures, and talk about how insects and the garden's ecosystems depend on each other. The Gardens of Golden Gate Park describe the 90-minute walk as beginner-friendly and open to all ages, so it suits bug-loving children with a parent. A magnifying glass or phone camera helps with the small finds. The group meets at the Main Gate at 8:30 AM. The program itself is free, with a suggested donation of $5–20. Garden admission is free for San Francisco residents, veterans, Museums for All/EBT participants and members; other visitors pay the garden's regular admission. Heavy rain cancels.
