Every winter, American White Pelicans fly thousands of miles from their Canadian breeding grounds to Lake Del Valle near Livermore, often gathering along the shoreline near the marina. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons in November and December, Park District naturalists set up spotting scopes at the public boat launch so families can take a close look at these huge birds and learn about their migration. Drop in any time between 1:30 and 3 pm; binoculars are encouraged. All ages are welcome with an adult participating. Wind and heavy rain cancel the session, and the park charges a $5 parking fee.
