About this adventure

Deer Hollow Farm is one of the last working homestead farms in California, set inside Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve in the foothills above Los Altos and Cupertino. It is a free community resource: families walk about a mile from the parking lots on a flat trail (strollers welcome) to reach the barnyard, where cows, chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits, goats, sheep and pigs live alongside a volunteer-tended garden and orchard. A self-guided tour explains the farm's history. Animals are let out of their pens in the morning, which can take up to an hour, so arrive after 9 a.m. to see them all; buildings and pens are closed to the public. Picnic tables and restrooms are at the north end of the farm, there is no food for sale and no trash cans, and 25 miles of preserve trails start nearby. The farm is staffed by the City of Mountain View and supported by Friends of Deer Hollow Farm.
