About this adventure

The Children's Discovery Museum marks Día de los Muertos with a day of art, dance and procession honoring departed ancestors. Children can try sand painting with stencils and sugar-skull (calavera) painting on the first floor from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and make a Monarch butterfly mask in the LeRoy Neiman Art Studio all day. Mictlan Danza y Cultura performs traditional Aztec dance at 10:30 a.m., and Teatro Familia Aztlán leads lively Calacas processions with giant skeleton puppets through the museum at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., stopping at Lupe, the museum's 14,000-year-old mammoth. A colorful, all-ages introduction to the Mexican tradition; museum tickets required.
