About this adventure
Mt. Madonna is a 4,605-acre county park in the Santa Cruz Mountains west of Gilroy, known for its towering redwood forest, with views over the Santa Clara Valley to the east and Monterey Bay to the west. The landscape shifts from redwoods to oak woodland, chaparral and meadows along a 14-mile hiking and equestrian trail system. For families, a one-mile self-guided nature trail winds around the ruins of cattle baron Henry Miller's summer home, and a visitor center covers the park's natural history, geology and the Ohlone people who lived here. Mt. Madonna Stables offers horseback trail rides, there is an archery range, and 116 reservable campsites, RV sites and yurts make it an easy family camping trip. Fee information is posted at the entrance kiosk.
