About this adventure
Pere Marquette State Park's Bald Eagle Days pair a classroom-style program with a guided drive to see wild eagles wintering along the Illinois River. Starting at 8:30 a.m. at the park Visitor Center, naturalists show a video and explain how to tell immature from mature bald eagles, what eagles eat and why they spend the winter here; the group then heads out on an observational drive to spot them in the trees along the river. Families drive their own cars, so arrive with a full tank, warm clothes, water- and mud-resistant shoes, binoculars and a camera. Reservations are required and open November 16, 2026; the first tour of the 2027 season is in January, with more dates in February and March.
