About this adventure
Over Thanksgiving weekend the Interpretive Center at Cahokia Mounds World Heritage Site in Collinsville hosts its Native American holiday market, three afternoons of shopping from more than two dozen vendors representing many tribal affiliations. Tables carry baskets, beaded clothing, drums, jewelry, knives, musical instruments, paintings and pottery, and the site lists the market under craft show and demonstrations, so children can see traditional work up close rather than just browse. Admission is free. It is an easy way to combine holiday gift shopping with a first look at the mounds site; the center's lobby has restrooms, a gift shop, a site model and a canoe exhibit. Some vendors sell knives, so keep an eye on small hands.
