About this adventure

A hands-on holiday program at Colvin Run Mill, the Fairfax County Park Authority's restored 19th-century gristmill site in Great Falls. Participants explore traditional, old-fashioned ways to wrap and decorate gifts for the holidays, the kind of paper, ribbon and natural trimmings families used before store-bought gift wrap, and wrap something to take home. The session lasts an hour and a half on the Monday morning of winter break week, so it fits school-age children who are already off, and the park lists it for ages 4 through adult, meaning parents and children can take part together (each participant registers). Registration and the fee are handled through the Park Authority's online system. Colvin Run Mill runs several other December programs (Santa at the Mill, lantern tours, card making, Candy Canes and Cocoa the same afternoon), so families can combine visits.
