About this adventure
The Consulate General of Mexico and the Institute of Mexican Culture hold their traditional Day of the Dead festival on the grounds of Historic Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta's Victorian garden cemetery next to Grant Park. Visitors of every age learn about the holiday through folkloric dance performances, craft activities, Mexican food and community altars (ofrendas) honoring family and friends who have died. Children and adults can dress up as Catrinas and Catrines and enter the costume contest, with registration on the day. Admission is free. Parking is very limited because the visitor lot is reserved for artists and vendors, so take MARTA to King Memorial (a 7–10 minute walk), ride-share or cycle (bike valet provided); pets are not allowed.
