Historic London Town & Gardens in Edgewater hosts the Appin's Regiment living-history group around the fire for spooky stories of times gone by. Visitors can admire the regiment's turnip carving — the old-world forerunner of the jack-o'-lantern — and learn how the customs of Scottish immigrants shaped the holiday we now call Halloween. It is a Saturday daytime program starting at 10 am, a not-too-scary way for school-age children to connect Halloween with colonial-era history on the South River. Tickets are sold in advance online; prices are not listed on the events page.
