Start the new year before dawn on a pre-sunrise owl walk in the Blue Hills. Owls are very vocal in early January, and a Mass Audubon naturalist leads the group along about 1 to 1.5 miles of the Green Dot Trail in the dark, listening for calling owls and talking about how they hunt and find food through the coldest weeks. Back inside Blue Hills Trailside Museum in Milton, participants warm up with refreshments and meet a few of the owls that live at the museum. Suited to older children (10 and up) who can handle a 5am start, with a parent or guardian at all times. Severe weather may cancel or postpone the walk; details on what to bring are emailed beforehand.
