A drop-in science activity at Discovery Museum in Acton about how bird beaks are shaped for the food each species eats. Children pick up everyday household tools such as tweezers, tongs and clothespins, use them as stand-in beaks, and test which ones work best for 'eating' different kinds of pretend bird food. It is a hands-on way for preschoolers and early elementary children to explore adaptation and evolution while practising fine-motor skills, and grown-ups can join in comparing results. The activity runs for two hours on a Thursday morning, so families can stop by during their regular museum visit; there is no separate sign-up and it is included with museum admission. Museum timed admission tickets are sold through the museum's website.
