Public skating $5.00; adults 62 and up free with valid ID; skate rentals $10.00, first come, first servedHelmets (bike or HECC-approved) are highly recommended; FMC has no helmets to rent or borrow. Adaptive equipment such as ice sleds and walkers is available at many FMC rinks; call ahead.

Somerville's Veterans Memorial Rink on Somerville Avenue is a DCR indoor ice arena operated by FMC Ice Sports since 2021, and it is one of the cheaper public skates around Boston at $5 per skater (one of three FMC rinks with the reduced rate). Skate rentals are $10 and adults 62 and over skate free with ID. Sessions are open to all ages and abilities and are fitted around youth and high school hockey (on October 21, 2026 the session ran 1:30-3:30 pm). The rink has a snack bar and skate sharpening. Bring a helmet, gloves and warm, waterproof layers for little ones, and check the full public skating calendar for the day's session before you go.
