About this adventure
Portsmouth, New Hampshire's Safe Haven Ballet brings its full-length Nutcracker to Lowell Memorial Auditorium for a late-afternoon show on Thanksgiving Saturday. All the familiar characters appear — a strong-minded Clara, an eccentric Drosselmeyer, spooky rats and the Sugar Plum Fairy, danced by artistic director Lissa Curtis — and the Land of Sweets adds a company original, 'The Brave American', a patriotic number the audience is invited to sing and clap along to. The company offers free trauma-sensitive classes to survivors of sexual and domestic violence, and many of those dancers perform in the production. A 4:30 pm start suits families with younger children; optional Backstage Chats add a behind-the-scenes tour and a signed Sugar Plum Fairy photo. All sales are final.
