Musicians and dancers from Son Monarcas present 'Butterfly Fandango', a family-friendly educational performance at Garfield Park Conservatory on Saturday, October 31, 11 a.m. to noon. Through live music, dance and interactive storytelling, the program traces the migration of the monarch butterfly and explores the Indigenous, African and Spanish influences on the rhythms and melodies of Latin America, using traditional instruments from across the region. Dances include Aztec drum and dance and Mexican zapateado foot-tapping, which kids can try along with the performers. The program ties into the Día de Muertos season, when monarchs hold special cultural meaning. All ages are welcome; children must be accompanied by an adult, and attendance is by registration through the conservatory's link.
