St. Charles switches on its downtown holiday lights on the Friday after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 27, 2026, at 5 p.m. on the 1st Street Plaza by the Fox River. The Lighting of the Lights Ceremony opens the city's Holiday Homecoming weekend with festive music, complimentary roasted nuts and a countdown to the light display, and Santa stays after the switch-on to meet children and pose for pictures. The lighted photo installations on the plaza stay up all season, so families can come back for holiday-card photos. The next evening brings the Electric Christmas Parade down Main Street, and Santa's Cottage on the same plaza opens on weekends from November 28. The ceremony is free and planned rain or shine, and friendly dogs are welcome.
