About this adventure
During its Holiday Traditions weekend, DeKalb's Ellwood House Museum opens both the decorated 1879 Ellwood mansion and the neighboring Ellcourt house for self-guided tours at your own pace. Live holiday music plays in both homes, and afterward visitors can stop at the Visitor Center for sweet treats, hot chocolate and free exhibits. A relaxed way for families to see a grand Victorian house dressed for Christmas without a timed tour; children 5 and under are free and youth tickets are discounted. Public hours are Saturday, Dec. 12 (4–7 p.m.) and Sunday, Dec. 13 (1–4 p.m.); Friday, Dec. 11 is a members-only preview. Guided Holiday Traditions Tours also run from Nov. 27 to Dec. 20.
