About this adventure

Once Upon a Symphony, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's series for children ages 3 to 5, presents Stone Soup in Buntrock Hall at Symphony Center between December 5, 2026 and February 13, 2027. In the classic tale, a hungry traveler comes to a village whose people say they have no food to share; he fills a large pot with water and stones, and soon the villagers add to the broth and enjoy the most delicious soup they have ever tasted. The musical adaptation shows how sharing brings joy and celebration. Members of the CSO play chamber music alongside vivid storytelling, with sets, costumes and images created by Chicago Children's Theatre, which produces the series with the CSO as an introduction to classical music and the orchestra's musicians. Performances last about 50 minutes, and tickets start at $30 including fees. The CSO describes Buntrock Hall as Symphony Center's intimate hall.
