The Colorado Rockies mascot Dinger swaps his baseball cap for a Santa suit and makes six holiday appearances on the plaza at McGregor Square, across Wazee Street from Coors Field. Families can walk up and take their own photos with the purple dinosaur in his Santa outfit; there is no booking system and the line is first come, first served during each appearance window, which makes it an easy add-on to a downtown outing rather than a timed photo package. Five of the dates are ordinary family appearances. The Friday evening session on December 11 is Pet Night, when dogs are invited into the photos too, so families who would rather avoid a crowd of pets may prefer another date. McGregor Square notes that appearance times can change. The plaza also has the McGregor Skate outdoor rink, a big screen showing holiday programming and restaurants around the square, and on most appearance days the Merry Market holiday vendors are set up nearby, so children can combine the photo with a skate or a look at the market stalls.
