On Monday, December 14, 2026, a day the museum is normally closed, Children's Museum Houston opens from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. exclusively for children with autism, sensory processing disorder and other learning differences and their families. Lights are dimmed, sounds kept low and distracting motion switched off; attendance is limited so the building is less crowded, extra visual signage marks where to pause or avoid climbing, and quiet rooms are available. Community partner organizations supporting families with sensory and developmental needs are on hand. The museum provides downloadable caregiver tip sheets, a social story, a sensory map and visual schedules in English and Spanish, and KultureCity sensory bags with headphones and fidgets can be borrowed at the Welcome Center. Registration is required and admission is $9.95 per person.
