Downtown Delray Beach lights its famous 100-foot Christmas tree at Old School Square on Tuesday, December 1, with Santa flipping the switch at 7 pm. Once it is lit, families can step inside the tree to see animated holiday scenes telling the story of the "Village by the Sea," then visit Santa's Holiday Village with ice skating, a carousel, mini golf and Santa's house. Atlantic Avenue closes to traffic from Swinton Avenue to NE 5th Avenue for a walkable evening of food, games, carolers and a silent disco from 6 to 9 pm. The tree and Santa's Village stay open through New Year's Day. The tradition began with a 50-foot tree in 1993 and grew to 100 feet for the city's centennial. Fees for village attractions are not listed on the page.
