About this adventure

Every Saturday morning the Milwaukee Art Museum runs a short story time that moves through the galleries. Families meet the reader in Windhover Hall, the soaring lakefront entrance hall near the admission desks, at 10:30 a.m. and walk together to a chosen work of art. Children sit and listen to a picture book in front of the artwork, talk about what they notice, and then make their own artwork inspired by the painting or sculpture and the story. The half-hour format fits the attention span of toddlers and preschoolers, and early-elementary children enjoy the art-making part. Because the stop changes from week to week, regulars see a different corner of the collection each time. Story time is included with museum admission, and children 12 and under always get in free, so a family visit costs only the adults' tickets (members are free). Afterwards families can stay to explore the galleries or the drop-in Art Studio, which is also included with admission.
