About this adventure
Minnesota author Kao Kalia Yang reads her new picture book, Momma's Christmas Gift, at ASI in a 30-minute intergenerational reading with projected images from the book. The story is a modern retelling of The Gift of the Magi about a Hmong refugee family celebrating Christmas while facing financial hardship, and the sacrifices made out of love. ASI frames the reading around kindness, belonging and the ways families show love. Afterward the author takes questions and signs books. ASI says the book is best suited for ages 4-8; copies are sold in the Museum Store, and families are encouraged to buy one before the program as supplies may be limited.
